Being in the Saturn mood that I am, I decided to make a trip over to the local Play 'N Trade to see what was in stock. I was particularly looking for a Saturn s-video cable as Sonic 3D Blast, the only Saturn game at my apartment at the moment, wasn't the same with standard a/v cables. While I left Play 'N Trade without an s-video cable in hand, I did leave with something much MUCH better:
Well, more like two somethings. Two mint Saturn Stunners in minty fresh boxes! While the Stunners have been covered quite a bit here at the SJY, and they sell for $9.99 new at a few online retailers, it's always a special moment when you find fifteen year old mint gaming equipment. To make the moment even better, the employee rang the Stunners up for $4.99 each. Considering this is the store that also gave me Last Blade 2 for free, I'll have to hit this place up much more often!
The back of the box made me chuckle, as a selection of lightgun games turned out to be three Virtua Cop screengrabs, each with their own "Virtua Cop" label. I guess lightgun games were in short supply back in 1995.

Nice grab! I got mine like you said for like 9.99 online I think. I lvoe fresh boxes! Just got a boxed 3d controller brand new also! I can't wait till the play n trade opens here! Now I gotta find Virua Cop 2. I heard it's the better of the two Saturn games. I may do a side by side review ;)

I have a red 'stunner' as well as three blue ones, but alas they're all slightly knackered. Must recalibrate/throw away/replace before the annual, traditional, halloween HOTD-fest.
Great find and great writing as usual Barry!
A Halloween HOTD party! What an excellent idea!
lol I need a mod chip/ Every copy of HOTD I have seen is expensive!
Wow cool. That's a very decent price for those mint boxes. I bought one of these guns as well on ebay.de. Had to pay 20 EUR, though. Seems someone found an old warehouse with a bunch of those.
Or perhaps SEGA is secretly manufacturing new ones?
Yeah, and what's the deal with the English HotD being so damn expensive while the JP version is usually as low as $20?
Great blog you have out here. I´m a Saturn lover as well so I think I´ll stick around =)
Welcome to the Saturn 'Yard, VerdaderoKhan!
I agree with Barry on the HOTD price! The saturn is by far one of the most expensive consoles to collect for! Maybe for xmas I can convince the wife to get me either Burning Rangers or HOTD! hehe

I'd go for Burning Rangers. HotD is awesome, but its sequel is better (despite not having an actual house).
I actually love HOTD 1 on the Saturn as much as HOTD2 on the Dreamcast, possibly because it is the jewel in my Saturn crown, and the most expensive (retro) videogame I ever bought, costing £25 pound three years ago.
Whatever you do, don't get a Japanese
Burning Rangers (like I did) as the dialogue between the various Rangers is vital for your progression in the game...
FK speaks the truth! Burning Rangers is essential in English for those not versed in Japanese.
My most expensive retro purchase was a recent buy of Segagaga for $42, although I'm looking to buy Panzer Dragoon Saga someday... when $200 means nothing to me... :)
lol I am not an RPG fan but the hype around PDS makes me want it! I considered a Jap version of Burning Rangers but I am glad I didin't lol.

lol, yeah, if the Japanese version is way lower in price than the English version, the reason is usually because nobody in the US/UK would bother with it.
