Panzer Dragoon spiritual successor coming to Kinect

Alright, alright. So this is neither a Saturn game, nor is it published by SEGA. However, the director of the original Panzer Dragoon Saturn trilogy, Yukio Futatsugi, is responsible for this piece of news. Yesterday at the Tokyo Game Show, Yukio Futatsugi took the Microsoft stage to announce the spiritual successor to Panzer Dragoon, Project Draco! While it hasn't been said officially that the game will take place in the Dragoon world, the visuals and fact that the gameplay remains the same makes it pretty apparent that this is what they're going for. Also: Panzer/Project, Dragoon/Draco? PD and PD? Hmm...

The game will be playable via Kinect, though it hasn't been said if the game will also be playable via standard controller. Microsoft describes the game as an “epic 3D flying shooter.” Via the Kinect, players nurture and communicate with the dragon to help develop its skills and train it in combat. Project Draco also includes online multiplayer over Xbox Live.

Very cool to see the series return in some form, especially with the creator behind the project!

If it ultimately turns out to be a shooter, and I can use a controller for it, I'm game.

Also, while I'm sure there's going to be at least some references to Futatsugi's old baby, I really doubt it'll be set within the Panzer Dragoon universe since the game isn't being published by Sega (AFAIK). It would be best to avoid any legal issues.

It's basically as much as a sequel to Panzer as "Child of Eden" (also on Kinect) is to Rez!

What's up with these "Fake Sega Sequels"?!

My guess is that SEGA doesn't have as much funding to support games like Eden and Draco as they did in the past. Still, I'd gladly welcome any form of sequel to Rez and PD!

Yeah, why attempt to do something innovative when you can just toss out another mediocre-bad Sonic game that'll still sell a bajillion copies anyway? Every now and then Sega will throw us for a loop with something outside-the-norm, but the days of the company taking tons of chances are well behind way behind them.

Sega is not what it used to be. And it makes me sad, to see the great Panzer Dragoon Design / Universe getting wasted on a Kinect game. Wtf. Did you guys play Kinect for once? It's more than awkward.

Don't forget that there been's another "P.D. acronym" game from Futatsugi: Phantom Dust. Quite fun too.
